Kaş Ancient Theatre: A Two-Thousand-Year Stage Facing the Sea

04 Mayıs 2026 Adasya Gezi Rehberi 1 min read

Located in central Kaş opposite the Mediterranean, this Hellenistic theatre is the most accessible and most enchanting ruin of the ancient city.

Just a short walk from Kaş's upper neighbourhoods, the Kaş Ancient Theatre is the city's most iconic structure. Dating from the 2nd–1st centuries BC, it offers a unique panorama: from the seating rows you look out over the island of Meis (Kastellorizo) and the endless blue of the Mediterranean.

**Historical Significance**
Known in antiquity as Antiphellos, Kaş was an important city of the Lycian League. The theatre served as the centre of social and political life — hosting not only plays but also public assemblies and religious ceremonies. With a capacity of around 4,000 spectators, the structure, together with the surrounding Lycian sarcophagi, reveals the region's rich ancient heritage.

**How to Get There**
A 10–15 minute walk from Kaş's central jetty or main square. Follow the signed streets; climb from Uzun Çarşı to the upper neighbourhood and the theatre appears naturally. Admission is free.

**Visit Tips**
- Offers a stunning panorama at sunset
- Don't miss the nearby Lycian sarcophagi
- Cultural events are occasionally held here in July–August
- Early morning is ideal for photography
